The Gals

Welcome to our blog!

We are three young women embarking on a cross Canada cycling trip! We will be starting May 5th from Victoria, B.C, making our way

East to St John’s, Newfoundland, spanning over >7000km. We are planning to stay mostly in campsites, but will indulge now and then in a roof over our heads (be it a hotel/motel/holiday inn, friends/family, or couchsurfing/warm showers). We will be carrying all our gear on our bikes, including tents and camping equipment.

This is by faaaar our biggest cycling adventure yet, and, after a LOT of planning and practice, we are so excited to get rolling!

Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments, and please check out our fundraising pages along the side bar!

Thank you!

Day 50: (June 23) West Hawk Lake to Rushing River Provincial Park 87.3km

While eating breakfast this morning at the campsite, a deer came right up to our table to check out what food we had. We put our hands out and the deer licked our hands!
After packing up, we took an old closed off highway from the campsite until the Ontario border! As Ontario is our home, we were very excited to get here. Today we would see the familiar likes of the LCBO and Ontario Parks, two establishments that would prove quite useful on this trip!
As we entered Ontario, so we entered the Lake of the Woods, an area of northern Ontario that appears to be more lake than land. Once in Ontario, we were on highway 17. We stopped for a leisurely lunch on the water in the beautiful city of Kenora.
After lunch we headed South on highway 71 for a few day detour that would help us avoid some of the notorious traffic of the area. We got eaten alive by black flies as the sun got lower. Finally we arrived at our first Ontario Provincial Park, Rushing River.
