Day 104: (August 16) Moncton to Borden-Carleton (PEI) 101.6km

Having had breakfast at the Hostel we were set for the day ahead. We had seen these very cool Moncton tshirts that we had to pick up. They were designed locally and sold at the bike coop. We stopped by the bike coop (La Bikery) on our way out of town.
We stopped for lunch at Shediak, a coastal town, where we saw the Atlantic Ocean for the first time during our trip!!! We  ate our typical lunch of wraps by the water.
We continued along the secondary highway along the coast- it was a windy ride! We then got to the site for the shuttle bus that takes cyclists actoss the confederation briudge from New Brunswick to PEI. The bridge is narrow and long (13km!), with heavy crosswinds, so bikes are not allowed on. The shuttle was easy and quick. We were able to set up camp at the Yogi Bear Campground just off the shuttle.

From Moncton we took the TCH Hwy 2 to Shediak. It was VERY busy and I would recommend an alternate route. From Shediak to the bridge we took the 133 then 955, both part of the "Acadian Coastal Drive". This ride was scenic with good traffic conditions (follow the Starfish)!

Day 103: (August 15) Young's Cove to Moncton 99.6km

We were determined to make it to Moncton at the very least today. We took a fun lunch break in Salisbury were we tried a Whoopie Pie (like a chocolate cupcake sandwich with icing in the middle). We continued on our way and made it to Moncton! What a great place to be on August 15th- Acadian Day!!! There was a music festival and incredibly friendly people encouraging us to stay for the party. We just had to stay the night and enjoy the moment. We checked into the C'mon in Hostel and made our way down town to enjoy the music festival. We saw some great artists perform including a Tribe Called Red. We were happy to be a part of the celebration.

We followed the 112 to Salisbury, and the 106 to Moncton. It was a quiet road with some rolling hills.

Day 102: (August 14) Casey's Campground to Young's Cove 55km

Our day began in the rain. We packed up camp before heading inside the campground restaurant. There was also a little museum in the back! Our breakfast was bought by strangers who found out what we were doing. They were so sneaky that we only found out from our waitress after they had left! We will pass this kindness forward. The owners of the campground offered that we stay sheltered from the rain as it was pouring. We waited for the rain to calm down before continuing on our way. At one point during this rainy windy day we hopped onto hwy 2 which was scary so we got off as soon as possible. We had been told in Fredericton that many cyclist cycle the highway! They are risk takers. We had a lunch out of the rain in Jemseg before cycling the hilly 105 to Young's Cove. At this point we stayed in a little motel to dry out our things and stay out of the rain. We were happy to be near the restaurant and gas station which we got treats from.

Day 101: (August 13) Fredericton to Casey's Campground 34km

After dropping our bikes off at Radical Edge (an awesome bike shop), we spent some time exploring the Fredericton Farmer's Market which proved to have delicious foods! We took some time to explore downtown Fredericton which had some cute shops and a local brewery (Picaroons). Once reunited with our bikes we said our goodbyes to our wonderful warm showers family. We hit the road to keep momentum and made it to Casey's Campground via the 105.

 

Day 100: (August 12) Woodstock to Fredericton 105km

This morning was particularly rainy, so we decided to head out of the campground and find a shelter to cook breakfast under. We found a patio of an ice cream shop that we made our oatmeal under. Once the oatmeal was cooked we realized there was something wrong with the water we had used, and it tasted very wrong! So we packed up and went into town for breakfast at a cute diner called Walter's.

Today we took the 105 until Mactaquac and then crossed the river to take the 102 into Fredericton. We are unsure if this was the best route as it was hilly and windy with some bumpy roads. It was also raining and we were wet and cold. So it was a memorable day 100. For lunch we stopped inter town of Nackawick, home of the worlds largest axe! It was indeed quite big!

Once arriving to Fredericton, we stayed with our fourth Warmshowers host of the trip, Michel and Tracy. They had a lovely family and were so welcoming to us. 

Day 99: (August 11) Grand Falls to Woodstock 127.7km

Today we took the 105. The road was bumpy and there were some steep ups and downs, but only for short amounts of time. On our way we stopped in Hartland, home of the worlds largest covered bridge! For the night we stopped in the Connell Park campground.

Day 98: (August 10) Lac Baker to Grand Falls 109.4km

We took the 144 south with a stop for lunch in the park in Edmuston. There were some big hills today but a beautiful ride along the river. After Edmunston we had noticed many Acadian flags and signs up along the roads in preparation for National Acadian Day. For the night we stopped in Grand Falls, a cute town that sits on a beautiful Gorge. There is a cute campground right in town called Chutes and Gorge camping.
