The Gals

The Gals

Welcome to our blog!

We are three young women embarking on a cross Canada cycling trip! We will be starting May 5th from Victoria, B.C, making our way

East to St John’s, Newfoundland, spanning over >7000km. We are planning to stay mostly in campsites, but will indulge now and then in a roof over our heads (be it a hotel/motel/holiday inn, friends/family, or couchsurfing/warm showers). We will be carrying all our gear on our bikes, including tents and camping equipment.

This is by faaaar our biggest cycling adventure yet, and, after a LOT of planning and practice, we are so excited to get rolling!

Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments, and please check out our fundraising pages along the side bar!

Thank you!

Days 83-85: (July 26-28) Nominingue and Montreal

A very important stop on our adventure was camp Nominingue, in the Laurentians. This is the camp that Julie and Claire met at working in the camp infirmary together. We were just approaching the changeover of sessions as tomorrow all the kids would be going home and the staff would be leaving for a few days off. Because of this, timing was tight and so we took our bikes on the Galland Laurentians bus up to Rivière Rouge. From Rivière Rouge we cycled 18 km to the town of Nominingue, all along Le Petit Train Du Nord, an old railway converted to a bike path. It is paved and flat, and a very enjoyable ride. After arriving in town, we had a quick lunch and headed to camp!
At camp we caught up with old friends and joined in on a few activities.
The next day was the last day of camp and all of the kids were heading home. We helped the kids get ready for the bus home. It felt nice to have a job to do amongst the usual camp chaos.
Once the kids and lost staff had left we had a barbecue with some of the senior staff, and of course the camp dogs, Trip and Bannock! A torrential downpour commenced during the barbecue, so in regular camp fashion, we took refuge under a canoe! Finally we moved into Elisa's cottage and had a lovely dinner.
The next morning we were off again! We cycled back to Rivière Rouge where we caught the bus to Montreal.
In Montreal we got to see some more friends from camp during the day, and had a lovely dinner with some friends, Olivier and Lea.
