The Gals

Welcome to our blog!

We are three young women embarking on a cross Canada cycling trip! We will be starting May 5th from Victoria, B.C, making our way

East to St John’s, Newfoundland, spanning over >7000km. We are planning to stay mostly in campsites, but will indulge now and then in a roof over our heads (be it a hotel/motel/holiday inn, friends/family, or couchsurfing/warm showers). We will be carrying all our gear on our bikes, including tents and camping equipment.

This is by faaaar our biggest cycling adventure yet, and, after a LOT of planning and practice, we are so excited to get rolling!

Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments, and please check out our fundraising pages along the side bar!

Thank you!

Day 66: (July 9) Pancake Bay PP to Sault Ste Marie

We got back on the 17 with a bit more energy than the day before. We cycled until we reached a rest stop where we could eat our leftovers. The man selling ice cream at the rest stop told us that we had no more major hills to worry about. Unfortunately he likely pulling out leg as there is a notorious climb called "mile hill" to get into the Soo. This hill is a long steep climb, with a narrow shoulder, and fast moving traffic. Once reaching the top, we switched into a side road called Sixth Line that took us right into town through the Hiawatha Highlands with an exciting downhill and beautiful view. On the way into town we had to stop at Velorution Bike Shop, a well known store that allows touring cyclists to camp in the backyard. In the guest book we found some fellow cyclists that we had met earlier on in the trip.
After having our fun at the bike store we headed to Madge's house, a friend of Claire's aunt. Madge was so welcoming, giving us a place to sleep, cooking for us and making a fire! We had a very memorable time.
